The Institute of Advanced Studies of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna is pleased to announce a call for 4 Ph.D. lodging Fellowships. Deadline: 30 November 2009
Each Fellowship will be assigned to a Ph.D. student at Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna.
The terms and conditions of the lodging Fellowship are described below:
1. The candidate must be admitted to a Doctoral School of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna for the academic year 2009-2010.
2. The lodging fellowship begins in January 2010 and is renewed, upon evaluation (see below) the end of each academic year for the official duration of the Ph.D. course.
3. The lodging fellowship provides accommodation in mini-flat equipped with cooking facilities, bathroom and bedroom to be shared with another Ph.D. student or researcher at the Institute of Advanced Studies (Residenza di Studi Superiori, Via Mario Fantin 15 - 40131 Bologna). Ph.D. students attending a Doctoral School in one of the regional sites of the University of Bologna will be granted an extra contribution against accommodation expenses of € 200 / month.
4. The lodging fellowship is awarded after a pre-selection process based on the candidate curriculum vitae. Candidates who will have passed the pre-selection will have to sustain an interview, that will be carried out in Italian or English.
Candidates must:

be admitted to a Ph.D. School of the XXV cycle 2009-2010 of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna.

not be Italian citizens and must not reside in Italy

not be over 36 years of age at the date of the application deadline
5. The interview will be held with a committee composed of the ProRettore to the International Relations, and the Directors of the Institute of Advanced Studies and of the Collegio Superiore of the University of Bologna. The committee will have to formulate a judgment on the candidate attitude to integrate in the Collegio and Institute educational activities.
6. Applications should be sent by e-mail to the Director of the Institute in Bologna (direzione.isa@unibo.it) and in copy to the Administrative (segreteria.isa@unibo.it) and International Secretary (secretary.isa@unibo.it) not later than 30 November 2009. Candidates are required to use the application form for Brains-In. An e-mail for receipt confirmation will be sent to every candidate, in case the confirmation is missing, please refer to International Secretary (secretary.isa@unibo.it).

a curriculum vitae;

a reference letter written by the supervisor or other foreign Professor from the originating University;
-
a letter acceptance by the supervisor at University of Bologna with an indication of the research project.
7. The committee will draft a short list of the candidates in order of merit, which will be published on the Institute's web site within 60 days of the application deadline.
8. The lodging fellowships will be awarded by the Institute of Advanced Studies in accordance with the order of merit. If the successful candidate is unable to take up the lodging fellowship, the fellowship will be offered to the candidates next in the order of merit shortlist.
9. The successful candidate must officially accept the Fellowship within 7 days of the date of publication of the order of merit on the Institute website. Within the Fellowship starting date he/she will have to submit to the ISA Administration official certification of the academic qualifications together with the letter of formal acceptance of the Fellowship. The statement should include a formal acceptance of the fellowship conditions as described above. False declarations will lead to exclusion from the Fellowship and Fellow will be liable to prosecution pursuant to Italian law.
10. ISA Ph.D. Fellows must regularly attend all lectures and events organized by the Institute of Advanced Studies.
11. Ph.D. Fellows are expected to acknowledge the support received from the Institute of Advanced Studies in all public occasions of presentation of Doctorate activity results and to produce at the end of each academic year a report on the developed activities and on the achieved results, accompanied by the tutor evaluation.
12. Failure to comply to the above requirements will be prejudicial to renewal of Fellowship.
The lodging fellowships are offered by the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna with the contribution of Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna.
